olive oil for skin

We’re all familiar with the cleanse, tone and moisturize power combination. You may even be practicing it. There are two routes to this: store-bought products and organic. If you wish to begin a healthy skin journey using organic products but aren’t sure where to start, we have just what you need.

Cleanse
Skin-friendly soaps such as African Black Soap, turmeric or activated charcoal soap remove dirt while leaving the skin moisturized. You can rest easy when using them since they’re made of organic ingredients. They gently cleanse the face without leaving it feeling stripped.

Tone
Toning is a process that firms up the skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Organic products used include apple cider vinegar and rose water. Mix 1 part ACV to 4 parts water, use it to dampen a cotton pad then gently pat your face. Rubbing irritates the skin and aggravates wrinkles. Rose water has a soothing effect. Apply on the face and allow it to settle into the pores.

Moisturize
Use pure oils such as Vitamin E oil to seal in that hard earned moisture. Your skin will be left feeling supple and fresh. When choosing an oil find out first what skin type you have for better results. Dry skin needs extra love to stay moisturised. Oils such as avocado, olive, macadamia, coconut, argan and hazelnut are recommended. They are rich in oleic acid which is readily absorbed into the skin. If you have normal skin, you rarely get breakouts. Any oil works with this skin type- just make sure it’s not sitting heavy on the surface. You may use jojoba, sweet almond, argan, rosehip, olive or grapeseed oil.

People with oily skin fall to the temptation of trying to ensure it stays as dry as possible. But this is detrimental, since the skin will produce more oil to counter the dryness. Choose oils that don’t feel sticky when applied, such as moringa, sunflower, grapeseed, safflower and jojoba oils. They contain linoleic acid that tones down oiliness of skin and reduces acne. Finding an oil with a good ratio of linoleic acid  oleic acid is the magic trick for combination skin. Such oils include: sesame, sweet almond, jojoba and rosehip seed oils.
