Jewellery lady

Jewellery can enhance your outfit and your features. However many of us are guilty of purchasing pieces on a whim or because they catch our eye from the counter. Only to get home and realise they don’t flatter our features or match with anything in the wardrobe. Don’t be caught up in this situation again- follow these guidelines when choosing accessories.

One of the basic considerations is skin tone. Warm skin tones look good in gold, orange and green pieces. Silver, red, purple and blue pieces go well with cool skin tones. Diamonds look amazing on any skin tone. Cool tones look their best in both white and rose tinted pearls while warm tones match well with silver tinted pearls.

Choice of bracelets depends on your frame. Petite girls look stunning in delicate pieces. Large bracelets ‘swallow’ small wrists. Wide pieces work well if you’re of average build while full-figured or tall people look better in bold pieces.

Let your face shape guide you when picking earrings. If you have a long face stay away from dangling pieces, they elongate the face further. Go for studs instead. Heart-shaped faces are flattered by earrings that balance out the narrow chin, for example triangular pieces. Long earrings work well for round faces while hoops soften out a square face.

Just as with bracelets, necklaces should match your frame. Those with a smaller build should wear small pieces and vice versa. To create an illusion of an elongated neck, choose a long, v-shaped necklace.

Before paying for that ring, check your finger stature. Long fingers need a wide band with a round setting while stocky fingers work well with narrow bands and oval setting.

In the end, what matters most is whether you like the jewellery. There’s no point in making a purchase based on these guidelines yet the pieces don’t spark joy.
