Air travel can be quite exciting or frustrating depending on how well you prepare. Sometimes things happen out of your control that can throw you off no matter how much you had planned, to the extent of you missing your flight. There are some things you should have in mind to ease your experience either way.
Identification Documents
Before you leave the house or office, double check to ensure you have the necessary identification documents. Keep them in a foldable purse or clutch bag for ease of access. Imagine the agony of missing your flight because of a missing passport or Yellow Fever certificate! Leave your loved ones with a copy of your itinerary, passport, health insurance and credit cards in case of any international emergencies.
Luggage Issues
For safety reasons, valuables such as electronics and jewellery should be part of your carry-on luggage. In case your luggage is misplaced, report immediately to the customer care agents and leave your contact details. Most airlines endeavour to deliver lost luggage to your destination.
Online Check-in
Some airlines allow for online check-in 24 hours before boarding time. This takes out the hassle of queuing at the airport. Just drop off your luggage at the curb then proceed to the boarding gate. How convenient!
Dress Easy
You’ll be required to remove your shoes for security checks. Go for a pair of flip-flops to make the process easier. Check your accessories for metal parts. Metal triggers the scanning equipment and you’ll be subjected to a secondary search. Keep it as simple as possible.
Arrive Early
Aim for at least 2 hours before departure time. This allows you to go through all the checks while relaxed and gives you time to settle down in peace. You don’t want to begin your journey while uptight now, do you?
Research
Find out which boarding gate leads to your flight, what you can and can’t carry, whether your flight is still as scheduled or has been delayed. This saves time, eliminates confusion and gives you peace of mind.
