It is said that eyes are windows to the soul. Thus when doing makeup you’ll want to pay special attention to this area to avoid looking like a clown. One of the trickiest bits to do is eyeshadow. But when done right it gives you that diva look. It gives the illusion of depth and dimension to your eyes.

Tools

Invest in high quality brushes and products. These will ease eyeshadow application and last long. Besides, you don’t want fake products on your eyes, one of the most sensitive organs of the body.

Shades

If intimidated by the numerous shades available, follow this simple rule of thumb. Use a dark eyeshadow shade near your lash line, a medium shade above that, and an even lighter shade for the top. Blend them well. This makes the eyes really pop.

Eye Shape

Knowing your eye shape helps to cut out so many mistakes. If you have hooded eyes, you won’t see the eyeshadow when your eyes are open. Thus you need to concentrate your shadow under the lower lashes and outer corners. People with deep-set eyes can pull off the dramatic smoky eye effortlessly. Wide-set eyes go well with dark colours at the inner corner, while close-set eyes should have dark shades applied on the outer corners.

Prime

Using primer before applying eyeshadow ensures it doesn’t absorb into the skin or form creases during the day. It also makes the colour(s) stand out. To make a less pigmented colour appear vibrant, start with a base of white eyeliner.

Shimmer

Use a shimmery eyeshadow on your inner eye corners to brighten up your look. This works when you’re tired after a long day yet you have to attend an event in the evening.

Shadow Fallout

This refers to eyeshadow falling on the rest of your face as you apply. To counter this, do your eye makeup first, clean up then continue with the rest of the makeup. You won’t have to worry about messing up your foundation. The other option is to use an eyeshadow shield.

Brow Hack

Apart from the lids, eyeshadow can be used on the brows too. If running low on brow products, wet your brush and dip it in powder. Use that to fill in your brows- no stress!
