Foundation is a life-saving makeup product. It creates an even colour of the skin and covers flaws. It’s important to choose the right one and apply it correctly for that flawless, natural look.
Selecting
To find your colour match, swipe the foundation on your jawline and look at your face in natural light. If the product colour disappears into the skin without having to blend, take it home. It’s the right shade for you.
Prepare Your Face
Before applying foundation, ensure your face is clean and moisturized. For best results wait 5 minutes for the skin to absorb the moisturizer. Apply primer to help your makeup stay put for longer. If you have a problematic T-zone, apply extra primer here. Oil from the skin can break down your foundation.
Application
Various foundations blend differently. Experiment to find out what works best: fingers, beauty blender or a brush. Some brands require more than one layer to get a full coverage effect.
If you apply concealer before foundation, you end up using more product. Having foundation as a base keeps the concealer crease-free. Remember to choose a concealer that’s one shade lighter than your skin tone.
During application, start from the centre of the face moving outwards. This gives a natural finish. You don’t want a mask-like perimeter on your face now, do you?
Blend the product over your ears and neck. Having different shades in these areas leaves one looking like a clown. If you’ll be wearing a low-cut top, cover your chest with foundation as well.
Skin Type
If your skin is prone to acne, choose an oil-free foundation. Oil- based products are heavy and tend to clog the pores. Opt for water-based products instead. Check the ingredients list to help you out. A water-based foundation has water as the first ingredient.
