hydrated hair

If you suffer from dry hair a lot, you need to investigate your moisturising regimen. Apart from wash day, natural hair needs hydration to be replenished during the week. You don’t necessarily need to wash your hair. Here are a few quick options to try.

Baggy Method

This is also known as the greenhouse method (GHM). Begin by spritzing your hair with water then cover with a plastic bag. Let it sit for a few hours or overnight. Your body heat lifts the hair’s cuticles, allowing the water to be absorbed. After removing the plastic bag, apply an oil to seal the hydration in, for instance castor oil. Follow with your cream or butter of choice. The last 2 steps are interchangeable.

Water Rinse

Hop into the shower, rinse your hair in warm water. Dry using a cotton cloth- squeeze the strands, do not rub. Rubbing causes tension on the hair and brings with it tangles too. Let the hair air dry until it’s damp. Seal in the water using a cream then an oil or vice versa. Style as desired.

If you are short on time, spritz your hair until it is damp, not dripping wet. Apply an oil followed by a butter. For an extra boost add some aloe vera gel to the water. This ingredient is amazing at hydrating hair. If your hair is open, work in sections to make the process easier.

Tips

  • Remember to use a satin bonnet or scarf when going to bed. Cotton pillowcases  absorb water away from the hair and cause friction on the hairline.
  • The heaviness on the cream depends on your hair texture. Those with coily hair need heavy butters since this type of hair loses hydration faster than curly types.
  • If the weather is really cold, headwraps can save the day. By keeping your hair tucked away, you minimize how dry it gets.
  • Remember, the best way to keep hair hydrated is from the inside. Drink lots of water and your hair will thank you.
