Former U.S President Barack Obama is holding advanced talks with leading Internet television network Netflix to produce high-profile shows. The content will be available exclusively on the streaming service. Mr. Obama and his wife Michelle hinted about the shows being inspirational in nature. This is the highest-profile media partnership for them since they left the White House.

Eric Schultz, a senior adviser to the former president, commented: “President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire. Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories.”

The number and format of episodes as well as how much the Obamas will be paid has not been decided as the deal is still in the formative stage. The former president, who left the White House when he was only 55 years old, has certainly achieved more than most people could dream of at his age. He and his wife are penning personal memoirs- they were reportedly paid more than $60 million for this. Another show of black excellence that we applaud.

The proposed deal with Netflix indicates that he is still invested in the United States’ status of civic affairs, and the intertwined relationship between media, politics and technology.
