liquid lipstick

Liquid lipstick is a hot item at the moment. The traditional tube lipsticks have been put in the back burner. Before you go and purchase one that catches your fancy, here are a few things you need to know.

Preparing The Lips

Applying liquid lipstick on chapped lips doesn’t help things. Before reaching for your lipstick, take some time to exfoliate the lips. Use your toothbrush when wet to gently scrub your lips. Being rough can cause the delicate lip skin to tear. To enhance exfoliation, use a little sugar while scrubbing.

After exfoliating, moisturise immediately using a lip balm or petroleum jelly. This prevents lipstick from drying out the lips, and also helps to set the colour so it doesn’t fade quickly. Do this well in advance before it’s lipstick time to allow the moisturiser penetrate the lips.

Lipliner

With certain brands of liquid lipstick, you may not need a lipliner. But if you’re new in this field, a lipliner helps to guide where to apply. Choose a liner that’s a bit darker than the lipstick shade for best results.

Application

You may need to apply more than one coat depending on the brand and shade. In such cases, don’t allow the first coat to dry completely before doing the second. If you do, the second layer will crack leaving you with a mess on the lips.

Use just enough product per layer. Wipe off the excess at the top of the tube otherwise having a lot of lipstick on the wand can be difficult to handle.

Correction Tools

If you happen to smudge the lipstick while applying, simply dab an earbud into makeup remover and gently wipe away the smudges. When you’re done applying the liquid lipstick, trace around the lips with a small brush and foundation to give a clean edge.
