Black Panther

Black Panther came, wowed us and inspired us. From the predominantly black cast, to the engaging plot, stunning visual effects and costumes, everything was top notch. In no time, it became the most tweeted-about movie. It shot through the ranks as theatre seatings were maxed out. And now it has broken another record.

The beloved movie has usurped Titanic at the Box Office as the 3rd highest grossing film in the USA. By 6th April, Black Panther had raked in $659.3 M through ticket sales in just 2 months. This comes after the Disney-Marvel film overtaking Avengers Assemble‘s $624 M earnings to claim its place as the greatest superhero movie of all time.

The only two movies standing in its way are Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Avatar (2009). This might not be the case for much longer, given Black Panther’s meteoric rise. Globally, it’s is positioned as the 10th best selling film with sales worth $1.29 B.

According to Forbes, Black Panther has made more money in a single calendar year than any other movie. Apart from the financial success, the movie has shattered the myth that diversity doesn’t sell on the big screens. Here’s a toast to Black excellence!

The top 5 movies at the Box Office currently stand as follows:

  1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens: $936,662,225
  2. Avatar: $760,507,625
  3. Black Panther: $665,630,708
