Fancy a beach vacation? East Africa has some of the most pristine beaches in the world. Apart from the main coastline, there are other islands with a host of treasures to be explored, such as Seychelles.

Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands located in the Indian Ocean, off East Africa. From coral reefs, to numerous expansive beaches, rare endemic animals like the huge Aldabra tortoise, this destination is dripping with attractions. There are plenty of resorts, spa hotels and self-catering accommodation facilities, thus you’re sorted whatever your fancy.

Cousin Island

This small island is a nature reserve protected by law as a Special Reserve. It has been recognised by Birdlife International as an Important Bird Area as it’s home to various land and water birds.

It’s covered mainly by indigenous woodland. Due to success efforts in conservation, the island is used as a case study for conservation management. It’s open to visitors an weekdays, but closed on weekends and public holidays. If you’re a nature lover, this island is for you.

Sainte Anne Marine National Park

This National Park is made of 6 islands off the northeast coast of Mahé Island, Seychelles. Luxury resorts, mesmerising beaches and Creole restaurants are the signature of these islands. There are amazing diving and snorkelling sites where one can mingle with hawksbill turtles and dolphins. On one of the islands, Moyenne, is dotted with pirates’ graves and the ruins of early settlers’ homes.

Victoria

Explore Victoria, the capital of Seychelles for a taste of the urban scene. At Seychelles National Botanical Gardens, fruit bats, giant tortoises, endemic orchids and palms await. Check out the historic La Domus constructed in 1934 to house Catholic missionaries. Looking for a market? The vibrant Sir Selwyn Clarke Market is your go-to for fruit, souvenirs, art and spices. Pass by the Bel Air cemetery for a piece of history- graves of French colonial settlers are located here.
