type

In a bid to take good care of your skin, you may focus efforts on finding the right products that win. However products can only take you so far. The best way to reap maximum benefits from products is to know your skin type. This will guide you on what to apply and how. You can find out your skin type by simply making observations over a few days.

Oiliness

Sensitive skin feels dry, patchy and may sting at times. Oily skin looks and feels greasy all over. Combination skin gets oily on the T- zone (forehead and nose) while dry skin feels tight. It’s prone to cracking in cold seasons.

Feeling After Cleansing

Sensitive skin feels clean after washing but tends to get irritated by a range of different products. If your cheeks feel tight but your nose is oil-free, you have combination skin. Dry skin feels taut and might itch sometimes after a wash. Gentle cleansers are necessary for this skin type. Oily skin feels oil-free immediately after washing, but soon after the oil returns.

Moisturising Needs

How often does your skin alert you that it needs moisturiser? If you require moisturiser frequently, you may need sensitive skin. However, it’s harder to find gentle products for this skin type. Oily skin produces a lot of sebum thus you find yourself moisturising less. Those with combination type need less product on the T- zone since that part is oily. Dry skin needs product several times a day.

Pore Size

Sensitive skin has pores varying from normal to large depending on the weather or reaction to irritants. Oily skin has large pores which get clogged easily while normal skin is the opposite. Combination skin has large pores at the T- zone and small ones elsewhere. Pores that feel tight are an indication of dry skin type.
