It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t like chocolate cake. Who can say no to that soft, creamy, decadent feel? It’s great for tea time, a quick snack or celebrating a special occasion. Here’s a recipe that will leave everyone asking for more!
Ingredients
225g all-purpose flour
3/4 cup cocoa powder
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup water, boiling hot
Makes 2 cakes
Method
- Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
- Prepare two 9-inch baking pans by applying butter and sprinkling with flour. Lining the bottom with parchment paper helps to reduce the likelihood of the cakes sticking to the pans even more.
- Mix the flour, baking soda, sugar, baking powder, cocoa powder and salt in a bowl. Stir until thoroughly blended.
- In a different bowl mix the milk, eggs, oil, vanilla extract. Whisk until they are all mixed.
- Add the boiling water.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ones, mix completely.
- Transfer the batter into the pans and place them in the oven.
- Bake for 30 minutes. To test if the cakes are done, insert a skewer in the middle. It should come out clean.
- Cool the chocolate cakes for 10 minutes on a cooling rack, while still in the pans.
- To remove the cakes from the pans, run a knife gently along the edges then turn the pans onto plates or trays.
- Serve with your beverage of choice. Enjoy!
Tip
For extra sweetness, top your cakes with chocolate frosting.
