After a long day or week, we all want to just wind down. Chilling on the couch catching up with your favourite movie or series is one of the most popular and inexpensive ways to do so. But what if- to your horror- your TV decides to malfunction? Just when you’ve laid out your snacks ready to indulge? Try these simple remedies.
Sound
If the sound is lagging, use the audio delay or lip sync feature on TV if using its speakers, or on the receiver if using external speakers. You could also set the input mode to PC.
If your device is unexplainably mute, check to see whether the HDMI or audio cable(s) are securely connected to both TV and headphones or receiver. Set it to output audio to your source device. In case the above don’t work, try a different audio cable. Use the receiver on other devices. If it works with them but not the TV, contact manufacturer’s support.
Remote
Stubborn remote? The natural reflex is to hit it hard, right? Here are some real solutions. Move any object that may be blocking the remote’s signal from reaching the TV. The batteries might be dead, replace them. Point the remote from different corners to see if any works better than the other. Move your satellite box further from the television. If all else fails, contact manufacturer’s support.
Power
A television that turns off randomly is frustrating. The power button could be stuck on the remote- check that first. To check whether the remote is the problem, remove the batteries. Power off the TV using the shut down pattern, if any. If none exists perform a factory reset. Contact manufacturer’s support if nothing works.
