Morocco

Some of the most breathtaking scenery you will ever see is in Africa, no doubt. One country that will capture your interest is Morocco, a North African country bordering the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. From desert landscape, to the coastline and rich architecture, this gem will have you coming back for more. The mix of Berber, Arabian and European cultural influences makes this a must-visit destination.

Have you ever seen a monochrome town? If not, head over to Oudaias Kasbah, Morroco’s blue and white town. Yes, this quaint district is made of houses whose walls are painted in these colours. This gives it an out-of-town feel despite being at the core of Rabat city. What’s more, not many tourists frequent this place. So if you prefer uncrowded locations, this is perfect for you.

If you’re all about the urban buzz however, you can’t fail to visit Marrakesh Medina. This is one of the most popular attractions in Morocco. This vibrant old city comes to life in the afternoon when street performers, stall vendors, snake charmers, traditional musicians, and even acrobats converge at Djemma el-fna Square. This destination gives you an unfiltered taste of Morocco’s bustling local life.

For history buffs, Morocco has you covered. Its most popular Roman ruin, Volubilis, is located on a hilltop from where you can view picturesque panoramas of the surrounding area. Its architectural elements are still well preserved, as well as other historical artefacts still in situ.

Also in this marvellous country is Ait Ben Haddou, a golden-stoned fortress located amidst incredible scenery. It’s so beautiful that Hollywood favours it as a shooting location for films. Yes! Even Hollywood can’t resist Africa’s beauty. To avoid crowds, go in the early morning or late afternoon since tour vans swarm the place from 10am-2pm.

Nature lovers aren’t left out either. Dades Valley provides great day-walk options, bird-spotting opportunities, and expansive views of fertile fields and orchards lined on either side by a gorge. There are also tiny towns to be explored. In addition, the snow-capped Atlas mountains are visible from here.

These are just a sample of what Morocco has to offer. There’s so much more to this gem of the North, waiting for you to explore. So why don’t you?
