The handbag is a woman’s best friend. It’s one of the most important pieces in one’s outfit. Handbags are both functional and aesthetic. It’s therefore important that we take good care of them so that they serve us for long.
For faux leather bags, the following tips come in handy:
Use a drop of liquid soap dissolved in water to clean the inside and outside of the handbag. Do this every few weeks.
For weekly cleaning, use a microfibre cloth to remove dust, then finish off by using a baby wipe. This gets rid of any residual dirt.
After cleaning, let the bag air dry in a well- ventilated area, preferably outside. If it still happens to be damp after air drying, stuff some newspapers in it. They are great at absorbing dampness and odour.
If you have suede & leather bags, be sure to:
Wipe the exterior once a week with a fragrance-free wipe. This removes dirt effectively but without ruining the handbag. Follow up with wiping it with a soft cloth dipped in diluted conditioner. You won’t have to worry about your favourite bag developing unsightly cracks.
Keep your handbag away from direct sun as much as possible especially during hotter months. This keeps fading and cracking at bay.
Remove oil stains using baby powder. Apply some powder on the stained area and let it sit overnight. Dust it off in the morning. If the stain is still there, repeat the process until it disappears.
In general, the following tips should help you take care of your bags:
When not using your handbag, place a handbag shaper in it to maintain its shape. These are available at bag shops.
Clear out any clutter often. Old receipts, sweet wrappers, random business cards and pieces of paper- these have to go. To remove any lint from the interior, use a lint roller.
Avoid placing your handbag on the floor. Besides getting visible stains, do you know how many germs are on such a surface, especially a public one? Hang the bag on a chair or hold it in your lap instead.
