False

One of the best ways to get your eyes popping without doing too much is to reach for false lashes, fondly known as falsies. They open up the eyes making you look awake & alive. Best part is, they are so easy to do. With thousands of brands out there, how do you know which falsies to pick? Here are a few pointers.

Look at the edge of the false lashes. If all the lashes are the same length, you might want to skip them. After all, our natural lashes vary in length and you want something as close to natural as possible. Choose lashes with varying lengths for everyday looks. Those of equal length are more suitable for high- fashion looks.

Be very careful about the glue. Some knock-off brands include a tub of glue that isn’t safe for human use. You can use the lashes, but toss that glue if it has a pungent smell. Also look at the glue’s colour. Some dry white while others dry clear. The latter is better. If you’re sensitive to latex, go for latex- free glue such as those from Revlon, DUO and Eyelure.

Materials: falsies are made of either mink, synthetic material or silk. Synthetic ones are more durable than the others. Mink lashes are made from real fur, making it easier to blend with your own. They’re also lightweight so you can wear them comfortably for long. Silk falsies are flexible and natural-looking.

Consider your own lashes and try to find falsies that mimic the real thing as closely as possible. If your lashes are lighter coloured, brown falsies are better for you. Avoid extremely long lashes if your natural ones are short. The aim is to enhance your appearance, not totally overhaul it.

Check the band that holds the false lashes together. Clear bands are better than black ones since they don’t show that strong demarcation line. They’re also perfect for beginners as they cover up any mistakes in application. Daytime everyday looks benefit from clear bands as well due to the invisible effect of full lashes.
