suits

Nothing gives off that ‘I’m here for serious business’ look like suits. They are staples for when you’re due for a business pitch and want to look the part. However, you don’t have to stick to drab designs just because of workplace dress code. You can still look stylish in a suit by following the tips below.

Let’s start with the classic corporate look. For this, go for blazers with one or two buttons. Neutral colours are best since they fit into any setting. They also allow you to wear a bright colour top when you want to liven things up. Bottom pieces should be well fitting but not too tight. You can either wear tailored trousers, knee- length skirts or a suit dress.

For interviews this look works best. Keep your makeup, accessories and shoes simple. The interviewers’ focus will be on your CV and performance during the interview, and not on your outfit.

If you work in an environment with a more liberal dress code (for example fashion & the arts) there’s leeway for experimentation. Your suits can be in bright colours. Use them to express your personality. Unique designs such as ruffles and sequins give your outfit that much- needed punch that lets you stand out.

The professional look is a relaxed version of the corporate. Here you can work with other fabrics such as tweed. Your skirts can be shorter, but not too short. It’s still for the workplace after all. Depending on your workplace dress code, you can also wear tailored shorts instead of trousers.

For fun looks, try out suits with prints. Yes! Who said suits have to be serious all the time? Just make sure it’s tailored to fit and flatters your silhouette. When wearing a printed suit, keep the rest of the outfit simple: plain coloured top, bag and shoes, with minimal accessories.
