Everyone loves bread. At least everyone should. But if you’re looking for an alternative to the usual brown or white loaf, why not try garlic bread?
Ingredients
For the loaf:
- 6 1/2 cups bread flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp white sugar
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tbsp softened unsalted butter
For the topping:
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 8 tbsp butter melted
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 2 tbsp fresh oregano or 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley finely chopped (or 4 tsp dried)

Pour warm water into a bowl. Add sugar and yeast. Stir and let stand 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Add in the butter, milk, salt and 3 cups flour. Stir in additional flour gradually. Keep adding flour until dough is smooth. Knead for 7-10 minutes. Dough should stick to the bottom of the bowl but leave the sides clear. It will be soft and slightly sticky.

Divide dough into 2 equal portions.

In a small bowl, combine the minced garlic, butter, oregano and parsley. Set aside.

Cut dough into 1-inch. pieces; dip into butter mixture. Layer these pieces into 2 – greased 8-inch x 4-inch loaf tins.

Cover loaves and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour. Meanwhile preheat oven to 350 degrees 15 minutes prior to the full rise.

Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Sprinkle with salt and serve.

Tip
You can also knead the dough using an automatic mixer for easier mixing.
