If looking for a tasty alternative to the usual pastry snacks, try out gingerbread. This recipe is fairly easy and you’ll be done in no time. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup molasses
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
Method
- Prepare the oven by preheating to 175 degrees C.
- Grease and flour a 9-inch cake tin.
- Mix the sugar and butter in a large bowl until well creamed.
- Beat in the egg, and mix in the molasses.
- Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves in a bowl.
- Blend into the creamed mixture, slowly stir in the hot water then pour the batter into the prepared tin.
- Bake for 1 hour, until a knife, toothpick or skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool in pan before serving. Enjoy your gingerbread with a beverage of choice.
Tip
If the centre remains soft when the rest of the cake is done, cover with aluminium foil then bake for a few more minutes.
