If looking for a tasty alternative to the usual pastry snacks, try out gingerbread. This recipe is fairly easy and you’ll be done in no time. Enjoy!



  • Prepare the oven by preheating to 175 degrees C.
  • Grease and flour a 9-inch cake tin.
  • Mix the sugar and butter in a large bowl until well creamed.
  • Beat in the egg, and mix in the molasses.
  • Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves in a bowl.
  • Blend into the creamed mixture, slowly stir in the hot water then pour the batter into the prepared tin.
  • Bake for 1 hour, until a knife, toothpick or skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool in pan before serving. Enjoy your¬†gingerbread with a beverage of choice.


If the centre remains soft when the rest of the cake is done, cover with aluminium foil then bake for a few more minutes.
