Ayurveda is the traditional Hindu system of medicine. It’s a holistic approach that encompasses diet, herbal remedies, exercise, meditation, breathing, and physical therapy. There are various ayurvedic treatments that aid in keeping hair healthy, let’s look at those.

Triphala

The antifungal and antibacterial properties of this herb make it a perfect hair treatment. It also reduces dandruff and boosts your hair’s volume. Use it by consuming with meals or mix with coconut oil then apply to the hair.

Reetha/ Aritha

Its common name is soapnuts. Aritha is antifungal, antibacterial, adds shine to hair, keeps it soft, reduces dandruff and is a great hair & scalp cleanser.

Amla

Also known as Indian gooseberry, amla has been an essential part of hair care rituals in India for ages. Massage your scalp with this to boost blood circulation, restore the scalp’s optimum pH level and get rid of dandruff. Vitamin C present in amla helps drastically reduce hair fall.

To prepare an amla treatment, heat some coconut oil in a pan and add two teaspoons of amla powder. Heat the oil until it turns brown. Collect the oil in a bowl. Apply it to the scalp while still slightly warm and massage well. You can also buy ready made amla oil.

Brahmi

This powder has many hair benefits including keeping the scalp supple thus reducing hair fall, keeping dandruff and itchiness at bay and reducing the likelihood of split ends. If your scalp is irritated, massage some brahmi oil on it for a soothing effect.

Fenugreek

It’s also known as methi. This is another ayurveda herb packed with goodness. The seeds contain calcium iron, potassium, folic acid, Vitamin A, Vitamin K and Vitamin C. It’s best used by being made part of your diet. You can also dissolve fenugreek powder in water, pour into a spray bottle and use as a daily hair spritz.

Shikakai

It contains antioxidants and vitamins A, C, K, and D, which keep hair nourished. It’s also a great alternative to shampoo due to its excellent cleaning properties. To use, mix shikakai powder with coconut oil, massage the scalp. Keep this mixture in a cool place to preserve freshness.
