Taking care of your little one once they learn to crawl is a challenge. They want to climb over everything, explore every corner of the house while shoving anything they come across into their mouths. Since there are many items in the house that can cause them harm, it’s best to babyproof your home to save you from constant worrying.
Electronics/ Appliances
Keep electrical cords tucked away behind furniture. Once you’re done using items like the iron box, unplug and keep it out of baby’s reach. For sockets that don’t have anything plugged in, use plastic socket covers. Babies love to poke at the outlets exposing them to risk of electrical shock.
The Kitchen
This part of the house is full of items dangerous to babies. Keep sharp pointed tools away from the edge of countertops. Handles of pots and pans should always be turned away from the edge of the cooker lest the child pulls on them. Keep hot food and drinks away from the counter’s edge.
Little ones explore their environment by tasting things, so store dishwashing liquids, detergents and other non-edible stuff out of their reach. Better still, install childproof drawers & cabinet doors.
Furniture
Ensure book shelves are firmly fixed to the wall to prevent them from falling on baby as (s)he attempts to climb it/ support themselves on it. Use corner guards on furniture that has sharp corners. Any tall unstable lamps/ vases should be placed behind couches. Use a low TV stand and push the TV as far back as possible.
Toys
These are supposed to bring your child joy when playing but you still need to babyproof them. Avoid having toys with tiny removable parts around the house until baby is old enough. Check to ensure the toy has no buttons, eyes, etc that baby can easily pull off and swallow. The toys shouldn’t be too heavy for the child. In addition, they shouldn’t have strings long enough to wrap around baby’s neck.
Bathroom
Don’t leave your child unattended near bathtubs or showers. Avoid leaving water in buckets even if in small amounts. Keep cleaning solutions, medicines, hair products, perfumes, etc out of baby’s reach.
