Mocktail

A mocktail is a non-alcoholic iced drink made using a mixture of juices, soft drinks and herbs. It’s perfect for teetotalers and when you’re hosting a children’s party. Here are 4 simple recipes you can prepare at home.

  1. Virgin Piña Colada

Ingredients
1 cup ice
1/4 cup coconut cream
3/4 cup pineapple juice
1/4 cup coconut milk
1 tablespoon white sugar or honey
Pineapple slices

Method
Put all the ingredients into an electric blender, blend until smooth.
Garnish with fresh pineapple slices.

2. Non-alcoholic Sangria

This mocktail requires a bit more time to prepare but is nonetheless tasty.

Ingredients
2 cups boiling water
1/2 cup sugar
2 black tea bags
2 cups cranberry juice
2 cinnamon sticks
2 cup orange juice
1 of each: medium orange, medium lemon and medium lime, sliced into rounds
1 medium apple, cored and cut into 1/2-inch chunks

Method

  • Pour the boiling water over tea bags and cinnamon sticks in a large container and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Discard tea bags and stir in sugar until it dissolves.
  • Add the cranberry juice, orange juice, orange, lemon, lime, and apple. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. For even better results do it overnight.
  • Just before serving, stir in carbonated water. Serve in glasses over ice.

3. Watermelon Slush

Ingredients

2 cups cubed seeded watermelon
6 ice cubes
1 tsp honey

Method

  • Place the ice cubes into a blender. Cover and pulse until completely crushed.
  • Add the watermelon and blend for 1 minute or until slushy.
  • Add the honey and blend for 10 seconds.

4. Booze-free Mojito

Ingredients

  • Combine 2 cups water and the sugar in a microwave-safe bowl then heat in microwave on high for 5 minutes.
  • Stir the mint into the water; let stand for 5 minutes. Strain and discard the mint leaves from the syrup. Set aside.
  • Stir the lime sherbet, lime juice, and 1 cup water together in a large pitcher until well combined. Pour the mint-infused syrup into the mixture. Add club soda and stir.
Serve over ice and garnish with lime slices.
