The harsh sun can leave your skin feeling like animal hide. If you live in Kenya, the past few months have been unbearably hot. To combat the drying effects of the sun, here are some hydrating face masks you can make right at home.
- Honey, Yogurt & Powdered Aloe
Honey is a humectant (draws water from the atmosphere onto the skin) and a soothing agent for the skin. The lactic acid bacteria in yogurt break down dead skin cells, while aloe is great at moisturizing skin.
- In a bowl, combine all the ingredients. Wash your face and hands then dab off the excess water from your face with a towel.
- Scoop the mixture using your fingers and gently apply on the face. Use gentle upward motions.
- Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm/ cold water.
2. Banana & Honey Mask
This one is particularly helpful for those with oily skin.
- Mash 1 fully ripe banana in a mixing bowl.
- Add 2 tablespoons of honey and mix thoroughly then stir in 1 teaspoon of fresh-squeezed orange juice (optional).
- Wash your face with lukewarm water, dab gently to dry then apply the mask.
- Leave on for 15-20 minutes then rinse off.
3. Grape Hydrating & Exfoliating Mask
Grapes aren’t popular in skin care but they do wonders too. The vitamin E in grapes helps your skin retain the moisture it needs to stay healthy. Weak acid in the fruit acts as a gentle exfoliator. Hydration and exfoliation in one mask- who doesn’t want that? Such a time saver.
- Mash 12 grapes in a mixing bowl then add 1 teaspoon of flour. Mix well.
- Spread the paste on your face gently. Let the mask sit for 15 minutes.
- Wash your face with lukewarm water and dry with a soft towel.
- If you feel any discomfort because of the acid in the grapes, remove the mask immediately.
