With the new Omicron COVID-19 variant spreading fast, proper precautions to prevent the spread of infection are more important than ever. Busy shopping malls, night clubs, crowded airports and large indoor meals can be risky places and activities. The safest and surest way is to stay home, but for many people, Christmas is marked with trips upcountry or to amusement parks to celebrate with friends and family.
In order to keep you and your loved ones safe this holiday season, observe the following measures.
-
Take extra precautions while traveling – Whether you are using public transport or travelling in a family car with other people, wear a mask at all times. Also try to minimize physical contact with others during stops on long drives.
-
Readjust your holiday gathering – This year, you do not have to spend the holidays with a large number of the extended family if you do not have to. Plan for smaller gatherings with friends and family who live near you and have been keeping safe. If you are hosting guests from far, insist on them getting vaccinated and observing safety practices in your home.
Also consider cooking and delivering a meal to a neighbor or friend who may be alone in the spirit of Christmas. If you cannot travel for serious reasons like quarantine and isolation, plan for zoom dinners with your family and friends.
-
Shop safer – Plan ahead to avoid crowds and shop online if necessary. Last minute shopping will find you in crowded spaces and put you at risk of getting the virus.
Since the onset of the pandemic, we have had to adjust to the new normal and do things slightly differently. Even if the restrictions are not ideal at a time of cheer and making merry, it is paramount to keep in mind that safety comes first.
Happy Holidays!!
