It’s been a heavy time in Kenya with the ongoing protests, and so this month we picked a romance with an edge for book club. Yomi Adegoke’s The List is a gripping exploration of friendship, ambition, and the complexities of modern womanhood. Set against the backdrop of the #MeToo movement, the novel delves into the lives of a group of high-achieving women whose world is upended by the release of an anonymous list detailing alleged abusers in the media industry.
Yomi Adegoke masterfully navigates the grey areas of accusation, guilt, and the pressure to conform to societal expectations. The characters are complex and relatable, making it impossible not to become invested in their stories. While the plot is fast-paced and engaging, the novel also offers a thought-provoking commentary on the challenges faced by women in today’s world.
We are almost done reading and can’t wait to meet up with our book club members to dissect this book. Happy reading!
