This month, the Zeda Book Club is reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, a bold and haunting classic that has captivated readers for nearly two centuries. We wanted to revisit a timeless story, and Wuthering Heights felt like the perfect place to start as we explore the classics together.

First published in 1847, Brontë’s only novel remains a masterful study of passion, revenge, and the tangled nature of love. Set against the windswept moors of northern England, the story of Heathcliff and Catherine continues to provoke debate and fascination of their tempestuous relationship as magnetic as it is destructive.

What makes Wuthering Heights so striking is how modern it still feels. Its exploration of class, race, obsession, and the darker sides of human desire speaks to themes we still grapple with today. Beneath the tragedy, there’s also sharp humor, emotional intensity, and an audaciousness that was ahead of its time. At Zeda Book Club, we’re looking forward to rediscovering this gothic classic, finding new layers in its characters and marveling at how it has endured for almost 200 years.

Zeda Book Club is open to women to join. We café hop and read a new book every month. We meet on the first Sunday of each month in Nairobi. Join the group here. Happy reading!
