For many people, women especially, perfumes and scents are part of their wardrobe. A spritz of a good scent or perfume completes your ensemble and boosts your confidence and mood.

Unknown to many, how you apply a perfume also has a big impact on how long it will last. Whether you are wearing a designer or niche perfume, here are a few tips and tricks to make your scent last longer.

1. Apply perfume after taking a bath

After taking a bath, apply unscented lotion first, then spritz or dab on your choice of perfume.

The dampness of your skin and the additional moisture from your skincare product helps lock in the scent and make it last longer.

2. Apply an unscented body lotion/Vaseline first

When perfume lands on dry skin, it will evaporate quickly. Make sure your skin is soft and hydrated before applying perfume, so the perfume can lock onto your skin. The best way to do that is to apply some unscented body lotion or moisturizer or apply some Vaseline first.

3. Apply perfume first before putting on clothes

Spray on your perfume before putting on your clothes. It allows you to reach the pulse points you want to apply your perfume on, and it avoids possible stains on your clothes.

4. Avoid misting when applying perfume

Spraying perfume and walking through it may look fun, but it is actually a waste of your favorite scent as the perfume does not cling on the skin.

The best way to make your scent last longer is to spray or dab perfume directly on your bare moisturized skin.

5. Apply perfume on pulse points

Pulse points are perfect spots for applying perfume that will stick to your body longer as they are warm with blood pumping close.

The most well-known pulse points are located on your wrists, neck, the inside of your elbows, behind your knees, below your midriff, on your ankles and calves.

6. Do not rub perfume after spraying

Spraying some perfume on one wrist and then rubbing it with the other wrist will reduce the chances of it staying long. After spraying on the pulse points of your choice, wait for it to dry before putting on your clothes. This will ensure it lasts longer on your skin.
